Stories that I came across over the past 24 hours that I thought were particularly interesting:
- Media Outlets Losing Money from a lack of auto ads - Some really interesting data points in here regarding the effect (or is it affect, i think it is effect) of the impact of the declining auto industry on ad-supported mediums.
- This year the auto industry will sell the fewest number of cars since 1993.
- Fox relies on the auto industry for 15% of its ad revenue - wow!
- Is Google a Media Company? - I think Knol is going to be a much bigger product than many people believe or are currently talking about. Yes Wikipedia has an edge and yes people like the service to society aspect of it, but at the end of the day, simple economics dictates that most people would rather get peid for their efforts than not.
- How to Make Money off Free iPhone Games - Just got my iPhone yesterday and downloaded Labyrinth (recommended from a friend). Not sure I would pay $6.99 for it, but the sponsorship and advertising opportunities are clear. In the past 24 hours, I have become more convinced of the market potential of wireless apps (note, not iPhone apps).
